Girl Power

I just saw this quote on a friends Status and loved it so much I had to add it to my blog. Gotta love girl power!

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. Give her a house, she will give you a home. Give her sperm, shewill give you a baby. Give her groceries, she will give you a meal. Give her a smile, she will give you her heart. She will multiply & enlarge what she is given. So if you give her crap, be ready to receive... a ton of shit!

My Internship

http://www.max-elements.com/

So it may not be the most high end glamourous apparel design internship, but I'm not blowing a bunch of money in a big city to get coffee for people either. I have been definitely learning a lot and I feel my free labor is certainly being put to good use! Everyone is pretty laid back and really nice. The are 4 owners. The lead designer is the one who hired me so my main boss. The 2 others are on business/production team, and the forth one works all around and is also a choreographer. I work with one other girl and she is the production manager. It is small office space that is part showroom, and part design studio. It is pretty spiffy when you walk in, I was quite impressed. They have real state of the art equipment, and also is eco-friendly as a company and facility which I think is great! Find us on facebook too!

Although graduation day was ridiculously cold and windy it was totally worth it. Not only it was gradution, but I got to hear a huge idol of mine, Angela Ahrendts the CEO of Burberry (one of my all-time favorite brands) give our commencement speech. She gave a pretty great commencement speech, and it couldn't have worked out better that she just happened to be at MY graduation. It was a huge inspiration and she is a very down to earth lady and even suuuper nice enough to get a picture with me. A select few of the students in the fashion department including myself had the pleasure to sit down for a Q&A session with her the previous day. I was mostly in much awe of her head-to-toe Burberry ensemble. It was very interesting and insightful into what it takes for success in the industry. It was helpful that she is from Indiana, it is proof that there is hope for me to make it big some day in the future of fashion. ;)

Currently, my lovely parents are now my new roommates as they were nice enough to let me come back to Indianapolis for the summer while I figure out my next move. I am currently completing a design internship at a local Indianapolis based design company Max Elements. They specialize in show stopping designs and custom performance-wear. The owners are Ball State alumni and began the company just a few short years ago, but are quickly becoming the preferred company among surrounding high school show choir and dance teams. However as an intern you know I am not getting that golden paycheck. Luckily enough, I have been able to continue my sales stylist job at the always amazing Nordstrom, where I have been working there on and off between school for the past three years. I was completed their internship program there last summer. I really enjoy working there and have decided to stick with that for a while, and see what happens from there!

Life after College

Well here I am, I did it, college is over and helllloooo real world. I paricipated in the May commencement ceremonies at Ball State University. I achieved my degrees in fashion merchandising, apparel design, as well as a marketing minor. It was a long, stressful, and fun 5 years, but now I am officially on my mission to take on my fashion career life. This is my new blog you can keep up with all my latest fashion news along my path to soon make it the hell out of Dodge Indiana, and into the amazing world of the fashion industry.
